Demonstrating craniofacial surgery for a Discovery Channel documentary
Charles Davis is director of The Central and Southern New Zealand Craniofacial Program. He regularly leads volunteer craniofacial teams teaching craniofacial surgery in developing countries. Charles has a PhD in Craniofacial Mechanobiology.
The Craniofacial service treats children and young adults with deformities of the skull, orbits and face and is a national centre of excellence with a strong international reputation.
The service sees approximately 120 new patients each year. Patients may see Dr Davis privately however most major craniofacial procedures are performed in the public hospital system. The Craniofacial service is jointly run by the Plastic Surgery and Neurosurgery services at Wellington, Christchurch, and Hutt Hospitals.
Craniofacial clinics are held in Hawkes Bay, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin.
Some of the cutting edge techniques used by the team have been the subject of documentaries on 20/20 and The Discovery Channel in USA and Australia.
