A young female with a blast injury to her face reconstructed by Charles Davis

Complex face reconstruction

Charles Davis has extensive experience performing complex facial reconstruction. Surgery may be required following injuries, burns, radiation treatment, cancer treatment, birth defects and several rare medical conditions.

Surgery requires careful planning at the level of the underlying skeleton and the various overlying layers. Several stages may be required. The aim is improvement of both appearance and function.

Examples of procedures that may be done include

  • Osteotomies – repositioning bone
  • Microvascular surgery
  • Flaps to reconstruct facial aesthetic subunits
  • Grafts including skin, dermis, fat, cartilage, bone
  • Implants and bone cement
  • Tissue expansion with inflatable balloons
